DaMarcus Beasley scored as the Houston Dynamo managed a draw in the first game without coach Owen Coyle, 1-1 at the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Coyle resigned on Wednesday with Houston in last place in the Western Conference.
Beasley opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a fine run into the box before unleashing a hard shot past David Ousted.
Both teams had a player sent off in the 43rd minute as Vancouver's Pedro Morales and Houston's Alex were involved in an altercation and both were shown straight red cards.
Octavio Rivero scored on a half-volley following a corner kick in the 52nd minute for Vancouver.
