Phillies Rumors: Cole Hamels trade update, Phillies' intentions revealed?

In this Phillies rumors and news update, the Philadelphia Phillies remain true to their original stance on coveted ace Cole Hamels - holding off on any potential trades unless they are blown away by a trade package of epic proportions.

Per USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers and Phillies recently had talks regarding Hamels which tipped Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro's hand:

The Phillies really don't want to trade him, considering he is signed through 2018. They aren't making him readily available. And considering they are flush with money and have a new TV deal, his $22.5 million salary is no problem.

Yet, according to one-ranking official directly involved with the talks, the Los Angeles Dodgers recently asked for Hamels. They were told the price would be three of their top prospects - center fielder Joc Pederson, shortstop Corey Seager and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias.

The Dodgers declined on giving up such an impressive haul, unwilling to mortgage the basis of their franchise's future in one fell swoop. Other teams will likely be faced with a similar quandary if they want to make a run at the 30-year-old lefty, thus making it an extremely remote possibility that a deal will get done before Thursday's deadline.
