Knicks Free Agency Rumors: New York Could Re-Sign PG Derrick Rose

Even after drafting PG Frank Ntilikina in the first round this year, Derrick Rose's time with the New York Knicks might not be over. The Knicks could elect to re-sign Rose this offseason as Ntilikina develops.

Charley Rosen of FanRagSports (and friend of Phil Jackson) reports the Knicks were impressed by Rose's exit interviews and that could lead to a reunion of the two parties.

"According to several local media sources, Phil Jackson was greatly impressed with Derrick Rose’s testimony in his exit interview," Rosen writes in an opinion piece stating the Knicks should re-sign Rose. "Plus, Rose has publicly stated that he sincerely wants to return to New York."

Rosen suggests a two-year deal for $20-$24 million (in total) for Rose, if he's willing to adapt more to the triangle offense. Of course, Rose might be able to get more money, and play for a better team, elsewhere. Still, he's expressed interest in returning

Ntilikina needs time to develop (he's very raw) and bringing back Rose would provide the Knicks with a solid stop-gap option. Ntilikina won't turn 19 until the end of July and given his limited playing time overseas, he might not be ready to be a starting NBA PG. If Rose isn't re-signed, a veteran to help mentor Ntilikina would be a quality pickup.
