Knicks Draft Rumors: New York Won't Take Guard With No. 9 Pick, Unlikely To Take Trae Young If He's Available

The New York Knicks have already interviewed a number of prospects in the pre-draft process that they're considering with the No. 9 overall pick, but there are only a select few they have legitimate interest in.

According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, the Knicks will draft a wing or post player and will pass on all guards that may be available.

The Knicks are focusing on selecting a wing or a big man with the No. 9 pick in the NBA Draft on June 21, and are unlikely to take a point guard even if Oklahoma's Trae Young or Alabama's Collin Sextofall, a league source told SNY.tv.

"I'd be shocked if they took a guard at 9," the league source told SNY.tv. "I'd be shocked." The Knicks have a glut of point guards in Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Frank Ntilikina, all of whom worked out at the team's Tarrytown facility earlier this week.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Knicks have "the hots" for Young. However, it's unlikely that Young is still on the board when the Knicks pick. He is currently projected to go No. 6 overall to the Orlando Magic in our post-combine mock draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers are also known to have interest at No. 8.

New York is believed to be focused on picking a small forward with the selection and is targeting Villanova's Mikal Bridges and Michigan State's Miles Bridges.

Mikal Bridges is very quick for someone who is 6-foot-7, and with a wingspan over seven feet, he has tremendous upside as the ultimate 3-and-D prospect. While his offensive game improved during his junior year, he will be more of a shooter at the NBA level as he hasn't proven he can consistently create his own shot.

As for Miles Bridges, he is a freak athlete who is excellent finishing around the rim and has shown somewhat of a reliable jumper. He's not someone who can create his own shot but his athleticism makes him an intriguing prospect.

The Knicks are projected to take Mikal Bridges with the No. 9 overall pick in our latest mock draft. Miles Bridges is projected to go one pick later to the Philadelphia 76ers.
