Knicks Rumors: Assessing LeBron James' free agency, Knicks' chances

In today's look into Knicks rumors and news, one New York Daily News writer gives the New York Knicks no chance of landing LeBron James in free agency - even if Melo decides to leave and opens up cap space.

Here's Mitch Lawrence's take on the Knicks' standing in the LeBron sweepstakes:

LeBron James hit the open market on Tuesday, and the Knicks have even less of a chance to get him than they did in 2010.

James terminated his contract with Miami − no surprise there − but Phil Jackson doesn’t have the cap space to steal away the best player on the planet from Pat Riley.

Even if the Knicks had the millions Jackson intends to open up next summer after he lops Tyson Chandler, Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani off the books, they’d have practically no chance to get LeBron.

James bypassed the Knicks and several other teams in 2010, including the Cleveland Cavs, to create the Big Three in Miami with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Rumblings around the Heat indicated that the three would love to remain together, and that their current foray into free agency is a play at adding another marquee talents to the mix.

All in all, it might be out of the realm of current possibility for the world's most famous basketball player to take his talents to the world's most famous arena.
