3 Reasons Why Knicks Fans Should Be Optimistic About The 2015-16 Season

It was a topsy-turvy year for the New York Knicks, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to be optimistic about when the 2015-16 NBA regular season starts. Despite all of the negatives that have come out of New York this year, here are three reasons why Knicks fans should be looking forward to next season:

3) Offseason flexibility

New York has the No. 4 pick in the draft and a lot of cap space, allowing them to upgrade their roster quickly. Only four players are under contract for next season (Carmelo Anthony, Jose Calderon, Tim Hardaway, Jr., and Cleanthony Early), meaning the Knicss will have the opportunity to fill the majority of their roster with better players - and they have the means to do so.

2) Free agent interest

The Knicks always seems to be pursuing the top free agents every offseason, but the interest is rarely reciprocated by the players themselves. However, that won't be the case this year. DeAndre Jordan talked about how much he loves New York City after the Clippers visited Madison Square Garden, Goran Dragic put the Knicks on his shortlist of desired teams, and Tobias Harris has stressed his desire to play for his hometown team. Now that there is legitimate interest in the Knicks among these guys and other free agents, New York won't strike out again this offseason.

1) Carmelo will be BACK

The Knicks will obviously be better next season with the return of their best player, but Carmelo will also give New York and the experience and leadership they so desperately lacked this year. Even if the Knicks land a big free agent or two, a good portion of their roster will still probably be filled with younger guys that will need someone to hold them accountable.
