The New York Jets officially announced the release of CB Antonio Cromartie Monday. It wasn't much of a surprise, as Cromartie struggled in 2015 and had a contract that didn't match his level of play.
Cromartie signed a four-year, $32 million contract before the start of last season. The move to cut Cromartie saves the team $8 million in salary cap space next season, with no dead money.

Cromartie was the San Diego Chargers' first round draft pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, going No. 19 overall. He's played in the NFL for 10 years, with half of those years coming with the Jets. He played for the Jets from 2010 to 2013, before spending one season in Arizona.
At age 31, Cromartie will likely get another shot in the NFL. He'll have suitors, as teams always need corner help. However, it's unlikely he'll manage to get the type of contract the Jets gave him.
