Andruw Jones Aiming To Return To MLB After Playing Two Seasons In Japan

Outfielder Andruw Jones is trying to return to Major League Baseball after playing the last two seasons in Japan, according to Nick Cafardo’s of the Boston Globe:

Andruw Jones, OF/DH, free agent — After two seasons with Rakuten in Japan, where he hit 26 home runs with 94 RBIs (.845 OPS) and 24 homers with 71 RBIs (.820 OPS), with OBPs of .391 and .394, Jones will be returning to major league baseball. Agent Scott Boras claims there are at least two teams interested in Jones as a DH and/or righthanded platoon player. A 10-time Gold Glove outfielder, Jones would return with 434 homers and 1,289 RBIs.

Jones last appeared in the majors in 2012 with the New York Yankees, when he batted .197/.294/.408 with 14 home runs and 34 RBI in 94 games. He spent most of his career with the Atlanta Braves (1996-2007), and then spent one season with each of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, and Chicago White Sox, before joining the Yankees.

Jones will probably have to receive a minor league contract and try to make a roster spot in spring training.
