Case Keenum Comes Off Bench To Lead Vikings To 20-17 Win Over Bears On Monday Night Football

The Minnesota Vikings spoiled rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky's first career start for the Chicago Bears as Kai Forbath drilled the game-winning field goal in the closing moments to give them a 20-17 win.

Trubisky was very inconsistent in his debut, completing 12/25 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also threw the interception that set up Minnesota's winning field goal.

However, this game was far from a walk in the park for the Vikings.

Sam Bradford, who was clearly still dealing with a left knee injury that caused him to miss the last three weeks, was replaced by Case Keenum late in the first half, and that's when Minnesota's offense took off. Leading just 3-2 at halftime, the Vikings scored on each of their first two possessions of the second half.

Keenum finished the game 17/21 passing for 140 yards and that touchdown, while Bradford was 5/11 for 36 yards.

Jerick McKinnon picked up the slack in the backfield for the injured Dalvin Cook, rushing for 95 yards and that touchdown on 16 carries. He was also their leading receiver, catching six passes for 51 yards.

When the Vikings caught fire in the second half, the Bears were able to return fire. A stunning fake punt gave Chicago the spark they needed, and on the next drive, Trubisky threw his only touchdown of the game.

Unfortunately for Chicago, Trubisky & Co. were unable to maintain the momentum following that quick burst. The fake punt is the only pass play over 30 yards the Bears have had this season.

Minnesota returns home next Sunday to host the Packers, while Chicago hits the road to take on the Ravens.
