Shea Patterson Eligibility: Ole Miss Objects To Appeal To Play in 2018 - Full Details

If you've followed me on Twitter over the past few weeks (@JamesTYoder), this would be no surprise: Ole Miss is formally challenging the claims made by Shea Patterson in his appeal for eligibility at Michigan in 2018.

Patterson's attorney Thomas Mars said today that Ole Miss responded to the NCAA appeal for the former 5-star QB's eligibility by denying the claims that were listed for reasons portrayed as his reasons for transferring.

"Whoever wrote that response for Ole Miss either wasn't paying attention last year or had a case of selective amnesia," Mars said.

Patterson and five other former teammates feel they were misled on the scope of that NCAA investigation by former coach Hugh Freeze in an appeal to the NCAA to not have to sit out the 1 year that is required by the NCAA when transferring schools as an undergraduate athlete.

According to CBS Sports Bruce Feldman, a person working closely with Patterson's appeal said misleading statements made by Freeze about the scope of the NCAA investigation were "a flat-out, deliberate lie." If his appeal is ultimately denied, Patterson would not become eligible until 2019. He is currently enrolled and practicing with Michigan and will participate in Michigan's Spring Game this Saturday.
