Michigan Football News: Ty Isaac Doesn't Care About Getting More Carries, Focused On Making "Impact"

Michigan Wolverines running back Ty Isaac was easily the most effective rusher in Michigan's 33-17 win over Florida on Saturday, picking up 114 yards on just 11 carries.

Starter Chris Evans received twice as many carries while only gaining 78 yards, but that doesn't mean Isaac is taking over the starting job. Running backs coach Jay Harbaugh said that Michigan will continue using a three-man rotation (Isaac, Evans and Karan Higdon) instead of giving Isaac lead back duties.

However, Isaac appears to be fine with that, saying the number of carries he gets doesn't matter as long as he's making an impact.

“I mean, not really, whatever they give me (carry-wise),” he said. “It could be 11. It could be three. It could be 20. Just as long as I have an impact on the game.”

Harbaugh echoed Isaac's sentiments earlier in the week, expressing the thought that the team really doesn't care who holds the starting position.

"It matters in terms of that guy [who starts], it's a great thing to start a game and has the confidence of your coaches and your teammates," Harbaugh said. "In terms of roles throughout a game, things change tremendously from the first quarter to the fourth quarter. In the big picture who starts isn't terribly important."

Isaac was proud of his performance and for eclipsing the 100-yard plateau against Florida but was quick to deflect attention away from himself and back on what the team was able to accomplish.

“That’s exciting, that’s one of the things I wanted to accomplish,” he said of running for over 100 yards. “To me, I think it’s a big thing not necessarily the personal goal, just you did a lot for the team. And I think that’s what I’m happiest about this weekend, we went down there and won and played a good team. We fought through some adversity and played well.

“Sometimes it’s in the scheme, we look at a lot of film. Obviously, the coaches know what they are doing, they are drawing up plays. There were a couple situations where we got the look we were expecting to get, which made it a little bit easier.”

Michigan has their home opener on Saturday against Cincinnati. Kickoff is set for noon ET and will be televised on ABC.
