Michigan Football News: New Wolverines assistant Greg Jackson excited to make the jump from NFL to college

New Michigan Wolverines secondary coach Greg Jackson has already started the process of getting to know his players after being hired by his former San Francisco 49ers boss, Jim Harbaugh, earlier this week.

They're excited about the opportunity, because the guys that are coming onto the staff are very experienced in coaching, and especially teaching and I'm excited I know the players are," he said via an mgoblue.com video and the Detroit Free Press. "The first thing we talk about is winning. I know coach Harbaugh, he's a winner. That's one of the reasons I wanted to come here and follow him, because I know he's going to win."

Jackson played 12 years at the safety position in the NFL, and has spent the last four years as the assistant secondary coach for Harbaugh's 49ers - helping mold San Francisco's defensive backfield into one of the most impressive units in the league during his stay.

Now Jackson, who also served as a college assistant at four different schools from 2003-10, is ready for the most important aspect of his new job in Ann Arbor - teaching young kids how to play the game the right way.

"The most important thing is, here you're able to teach guys at such a young age and teach them the right way," the former LSU All-American (1988) said. "Because a lot of guys that get into the National Football League are taught but some of them – not all – feel like they can't be taught anymore. Here at the college level it's great because they have the aspirations of going to the National Football League, so they're going to listen to a lot of things you say."
