Lakers Sign Markieff Morris, DeMarcus Cousins Waived & Reggie Jackson To Clippers I Lakers News & Rumors

The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to be big players in the buyout market, but they have found what may be their only pick up in Markieff Morris. Morris, who was bought out by the Detroit Pistons after not being moved at the NBA Trade Deadline, is expected to make his Lakers debut on Tuesday night against Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans. Markieff Morris is going to be a perfect addition off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers as a guy who can score from beyond the 3-point arc, post up or create his own shot in the mid-range. He has been very effective for the Pistons in limited minutes, and he will now look to get the same productivity going for a contender in the Lakers.

IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW, Lakers Report host Jimmy Crowther discusses the latest Lakers news & rumors including signing Markieff Morris, waiving Boogie Cousins & the Clippers landing Reggie Davis.

The Los Angeles Lakers had to create a roster spot for the the Markieff Morris signing, and the unfortunate casualty of that was DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins tore his ACL in the offseason and has suffered multiple injuries since leaving the Sacramento Kings a few years ago. Cousins was a free gamble for the Lakers in the summer, but he is now an unrestricted free agent after being waived by the Lakers. He may continue to rehab with the team and stick around the facilities, but Boogie Cousins is no longer a Los Angeles Laker. There have been rumors about Cousins potentially re-signing with the Lakers this summer, but nothing is guaranteed.

Reggie Jackson was a point guard that was a potential target for the Lakers in the buyout market, but he was almost immediately picked up by the Los Angeles Clippers after receiving a buyout from the Detroit Pistons. Jackson is an excellent starting point guard that is only 29 years old. The addition of Reggie Jackson by the Clippers will be an undeniable upgrade as a back-up to Patrick Beverley. Jackson is a good defender and shooter that can be plugged into any system almost immediately. The Lakers swung and missed on Jackson, which could prove to be a big miss as we enter the 2020 NBA Playoff race.
