Veach said during Tuesday’s press conference that the Chiefs have been preparing for a major contract for Mahomes since early on in 2018 before he had proven anything as the starting QB.

Patrick Mahomes extension of 10 years and up to $503 million is massive, but most players want to sign 3 and 4 year deals so they can hit the open market and maximize their money several times. Mahomes wanted security, but also the ability for the Chiefs to keep good players around him long-term. Ten year contracts are unprecedented in the NFL. Mahomes said during the presser “no offense, but you can’t do this with every single organization.” The trust between the Chiefs & Mahomes was key to orchestrating a unique contract like this.
Chiefs Rumors have been buzzing around Andy Reid since he won his first Super Bowl last season. At 62 years old, it’s fair to wonder if retirement could be in his near future. However, he assured Mahomes that he hasn’t even thought about retirement and that he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
