The Dallas Cowboys offseason is in full swing with Cowboys OTAs about wrapped up & the mandatory minicamp set to begin on June 11. The NFL offseason is all about players competing to make the roster. Of course there are “roster locks” on every team, but there are also a handful of spots on the 53-man roster that are usually up for grabs. The top rated betting sites have the Cowboys as a fringe playoffs-team, so the back-end of the roster will be critical.
That means there could be some surprise players that impress during the offseason and end up making the final roster. Cowboys Report host Tom Downey breaks down 10 surprise players who can make the Dallas Cowboys roster in 2019.
The final roster spots typically consist of late draft picks, undrafted free agents & former practice squad players who have shown consistency & improvement over time. RB Darius Jackson is a former 2016 sixth round pick for the Cowboys who has been back and forth from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Cowboys drafted 2 RBs in the 2019 NFL Draft, so his chances are slim to make the roster. Rico Gathers is a former seventh rounder who has been a fan favorite for Cowboys Nation ever since he joined the Cowboys, but he hasn’t made enough strides to lock up a roster spot.
Players such as Daniel Wise & Jon’Vea Johnson were 2019 undrafted free agents who are among the favorites to make the Cowboys 53-man roster, but they will have to make some serious impressions to earn a roster spot in two of the Cowboys most crowded positions. Mitch Hyatt, Kyle Queiro, Chris Westry, Kasey Redfern & Donovan Olumba are some more names to watch out for this offseason.
