Cavs News: David Blatt Blames Kyrie Irving's Shooting Slump On Fatigue, Defense

After getting off to a scorchingly hot start to the season, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving has hit a bit of a rough stretch of late, even before he hurt his knee against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He's averaging just 14.7 points and shooting less than 40 percent during the last six games.

“I’m just getting every look I can ask for right now,” Irving said. “But at the end of the day you just got to keep staying in the gym, getting with pace, having the confidence at all times at both ends of the floor and they’ll eventually drop. It’s the law of averages. It’s just the way it is sometimes.”

Cleveland head coach David Blatt blamed Irving's struggles on his renewed effort to defense.

“Kyrie was playing a lot of minutes and a lot was on his shoulders. I think he got a little tired,” Blatt said. “He’s been so active and he’s really been making an effort at both ends of the court. If anything, that [slump] is a fatigue thing.”

Cleveland's next game is Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks.
