Nets Rumors: Would LeBron signing require a Brook Lopez sign-and-trade?

In today's Nets rumors, we examine exactly what it would take for the Brooklyn Nets to go from luxury tax offenders to major players for LeBron James in the span of a few days.

Here's ESPN's Chris Broussard with the (albeit unlikely) scenario for how the Nets could bring the King to Barclays Center:

The Nets would have just as much trouble as the Knicks clearing the cap space to land James. While they would perhaps have the pieces to appease Miami in a sign-and-trade, they'd first have to get beneath the luxury tax line to be eligible to take back players in a sign-and-trade.

That would mean moving Joe Johnson or Deron Williams (they'd prefer it be Williams), but with Williams' injuries and max contract, that will be incredibly difficult. If they somehow found a taker for Williams, the Nets could then offer up Brook Lopez to Miami in a sign-and-trade for James.

Like the Knicks' scenario, this is barely within the realm of possibility.

Giving up either Joe Johnson or Deron Williams and Brook Lopez might be okay with Nets ownership if they could somehow get in position to be top contenders for James.

However, the Nets will most likely remain on the periphery of the LeBron James sweepstakes - at least for this summer.
