CB Carlton Davis Guarantees Auburn Will Win First 5 Games Of 2016 Season

Auburn's disappointing 2015 season started in September, when the preseason No. 6 team in the country went 2-2 in their first four games - including an overtime win over Jacksonville State.

No one is quite sure what to make of the Tigers going into 2016 - except for cornerback Carlton Davis. The sophomore told reporters yesterday that he expects Auburn to go undefeated through at least their first five games of the season.

“We’re not going to be talked about at the beginning of the season, but I feel like once we go on a 5-0 run people will start to recognize what’s working for Auburn? It’s the defense. We’re getting better every day. Coach (Kevin) Steele, Coach (Wesley) McGriff and all our new coaches are just working us. I feel it. It’s like a gut feeling. I just feel it.”

Auburn does play all of those games at home, but they will face some stiff competition. They open the season against the projected preseason No. 1 team in Clemson, then have games against Texas A&M and LSU to close out the month of September.

The last time Auburn opened the year with five straight home games was in 2005, and they went 4-1 during that stretch.

Davis emerged as an impact player as a freshman in 2015, recording 56 tackles with three interceptions and eight passes defensed.
