Auburn Tigers starting quarterback Nick Marshall is 19-5 as the program's #1 signal caller, leading the Tigers to last year's national championship game (and within a hair of winning the whole thing).
However, despite his success at quarterback, a lot of NFL scouts believe that he may need to ply his trade at a different position to make a successful jump to the professional level.
"It's just something I have to think about," Marshall said this week, via Brandon Marcello of AL.com. "As of right now, I'm open to play anything, but I'm looking to play quarterback."
Regardless of what the scouts say, head coach Gus Malzahn has nothing but confidence in Marshall's work as a quarterback.
"He's one of the better quarterbacks in the entire country and I feel like he's one of the better overall players in the country," Malzahn said. "He's definitely an NFL player. He's much improved and I think he'll do nothing but get better."
Marshall has thrown for 1,688 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions this season. While those numbers are decently impressive, he has completed under 60 percent of his throws (59.5), raising questions about his accuracy as a thrower.
However, his athleticism means he'll have a home on a NFL team in some capacity. He needs just 78 yards to pass Phil Gargis for the most yards rushed for by an Auburn QB (1,884).
