Wyoming's Branch is named Big 12 wrestling coach of the year

University of Wyoming wrestling coach Mark Branch was honored as the Big 12 coach of the year on Monday.

Now in his 10th season with the Cowboys, Branch led the team to a 13-3 dual record (7-2 Big 12) in 2017-18. Wyoming finished fourth at the Big 12 Championship earlier this month, with seniors Bryce Meredith and Archie Colgan both winning individual titles.

Branch, who has compiled an overall mark of 100-49 at UW, was previously named Western Wrestling Conference coach of the year (2010-12).

Six Cowboys -- Meredith, Colgan, redshirt freshmen Montorie Bridges and Sam Turner, junior Branson Ashworth and senior Chaz Polson -- will compete in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this weekend in Cleveland.
