Wyoming wrestling picks up four wins in first session of NCAA Championships

CLEVELAND — Bryce Meredith received a little motivation during his first-round match Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena. In the middle of his 5-1 win over Cal Poly's Colton Schilling, the news that teammate Montorie Bridges had won by major decision boomed over the public address system.

"I don’t know if it was maybe just a down time in the match or whatever, but I did hear it," said Meredith, the No. 1 seed at 141 pounds and a two-time defending all-American. "... They said, ‘Montorie Bridges.’ I was like, ‘Man, I’ve got to get a major now."

He fell short of that goal, but like all of Wyoming's seeded wrestlers, the Cheyenne native took care of business in the opening session, as Wyoming went 4-2 overall.
