The 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National may be the most highly anticipated ever -- with Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy playing exceptional golf, it could be a finish to remember. I reveal my top 10 players for the 2018 Masters, and give you some fantasy golf insight along the way -- check out the video segment below seen on The Cam Rogers Show for more analysis.
#10 Bubba Watson: He's a two-time winner at Augusta (2012 and 2014), and has also won twice on Tour this season (Genesis Open and WGC Match Play). Augusta National often requires creativity and exceptional shot shaping ability -- Watson provides that.
#9 Sergio Garcia: The defending champion is now a father, and perhaps that could be a distraction for the Spaniard. Garcia leads the Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach, so his iron game is on point. However, only three players have ever won back-to-back Masters: Nick Faldo, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Sergio has an uphill climb.
#8 Justin Rose: Rose is playing exceptional golf and has finished runner-up twice in the last three Masters. He also ranks fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting, 14th in bogey avoidance and T-20 in driving distance. He's been automatic at Augusta of late, but for daily fantasy golf purposes, he may be too popular.
#7 Rickie Fowler: Fowler is rounding into form nicely, and has had solid success at Augusta (3 top-15 finishes in last 4 appearances). He also ranks 6th in Par 4 Scoring Average. The cautionary tale with Fowler is his tendency to blow up, but he's worth the risk in fantasy golf. With a lot of players going for Justin Rose or Sergio Garcia, I'm fine with drafting Rickie.
#6 Phil Mickelson: The three-time Masters champion comes in with perhaps the best form in a long time. Mickelson recently won the WGC Mexico Championship, ranks second in Strokes Gained: Putting, and knows Augusta like the back of his hand. The Masters tends to be friendly to the older veterans on Tour (Fred Couples has been in contention quite often), so it'd be no surprise to see Phil be in the hunt. Buy into Mickelson in all fantasy golf formats.
#5 Tiger Woods: Here he is -- fresh off three straight top-15 finishes including a runner-up at the Valspar Championship. Tiger Woods' game is as good as it's been in a long time. His short game is exceptional, and his irons are dialed in as well. His course knowledge is superb, and something to always consider. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Tiger-Phil late Sunday pairing this week.
#4 Dustin Johnson: Dustin comes into this event having missed the 2017 Masters due to injury. He's the World's number one golfer, fantastic off the tee, and knows how to score well on par 5s (first in the field in Par 5 Scoring Average). He hasn't played much this season, so he'll certainly be rested. The problem with DJ is that he's the highest priced golfer on DraftKings, which scares me away a bit.
#3 Justin Thomas: The reigning PGA Tour Player of The Year and FedEx Cup Champion has been crazy good so far in 2018. He hasn't finished worse than T-22 in 10 starts on Tour. I'm fading JT this week as he has yet to log a top-15 finish at the Masters.
#2 Rory McIlroy: When McIlroy is on, he's the world's best golfer. Having recently won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy is riding serious momentum into his quest to complete the career grand slam. He's a fantastic driver and his putter is red hot -- he's one of my core players for all fantasy golf formats.
#1 Jordan Spieth: Speaking of core players, here's another. Spieth capped off the Houston Open with a 6-under 66. His tee-to-green game has been top notch all year, and the putter appears to be awake now, too. That's all I need to see from Spieth to know he'll be in contention come Sunday. Buy into him in your fantasy golf lineups.
