Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz reportedly fired after Longhorn’s loss to BYU

The hammer’s been dropped on Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz after the 15th ranked Longhorns gave up a school-record 550 rushing yards to the Cougars in Week 2 play.

It was a hard loss for Texas to stomach, especially as this game was supposed to set the stage for a true showing of the Longhorn defense. Unfortunately that was not the case as 679 yards of total offense and 40 points were given up in Provo, Utah Saturday night.

Greg Robinson will reportedly be replacing Diaz, according to Orangebloods.com’s Chip Brown.

Robinson, who spent 10 seasons as an NFL defensive coordinator, two at Michigan and four as head coach at Syracuse, is no stranger to the Longhorn family. In 2004 he served a short stint as Texas’ co-defensive coordinator and came back in 2011 as a football analyst.

With tough times surrounding the entire football program, let’s hope the Longhorns can turn it around before hosting Ole Miss in Week 3.
