Tennessee Football Rumors: Jeremy Pruitt Hires Offensive, Defensive Coordinators & Other Assistant Coaches

New Tennessee Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt has only been on the job for a day and he has already hired several members of his coaching staff.

According to Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman, Pruitt is hiring Georgia linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer as defensive coordinator with Tracy Rocker and Chris Rumph serving as positional coaches.

Sherrer was the defensive coordinator at South Alabama in 2013 and spent the last three seasons on Georgia's staff.

On the offensive side of the ball, Pruitt has hired USC passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tyson Helton - USC head coach Clay Helton's brother - to be his offensive coordinator among several other hires, according to ESPN's Chris Low.

Helton joined USC's staff in 2016 after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky.

Pruitt, who has never been a head coach before, has won two national championships during his 11-year collegiate coaching career with Florida State in 2013 and Alabama in 2016. Eight years of his career have been spent with the Tide (2007-12, 2016-17), while he spent that one with Florida State and two at Georgia.

He will remain as Alabama's defensive coordinator through the end of their season.
