Sergio Romo To Rest Arm, Won't Throw For Another 10 Days

San Francisco Giants reliever Sergio Romo is heading to the disabled list after suffering a strained flexor tendon in his throwing elbow. As part of his recovery, he doesn't plan to throw for 10 days, at which point he will be re-evaluated by team doctors to determine a timeline for his return.

Romo contributed the injury to simple wear and tear after making at least 64 appearances in six straight seasons.

"This time I just need a little bit more of a break," Romo said. "It's almost like I get another month of Spring Training, since it's so early in the season. I have to make sure I give myself the best opportunity to feel right."

Romo is in the final year of his contract, but he isn't worried about how the injury will affect his status in free agency.

"I'm not trippin' off of that," he said. "We're in April still. I know I'll be healthy."

Romo had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances so far this season.
