Penn State men’s lacrosse boosts NCAA Tournament resume with upset win over Johns Hopkins

Penn State had few options after losing a close game to Maryland — either beat No. 4 Johns Hopkins and revitalize their postseason hopes, or make a statement.

The statement was made.

Because of Gerard Arceri, who was hampered by a serious limp, the Nittany Lions beat the Blue Jays for the first time in program history.

The teams traded goals to start the game, but Arceri established his dominance at the face-off X early.

The first to benefit from Arceri’s performance, which featured a 8-of-9 first-quarter thrashing of the Johns Hopkins specialist unit, was fellow sophomore Mac O’Keefe.
