The Latest NFL Free Agency Rumors And News On Colin Kaepernick, Danny Amendola And More

NFL free agency is here and the first week is over. Free agency officially started 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, and a flurry of moves came before and after the official start. While most of the big name players are already off the market, a few talented players have yet to sign. Although the initial wave is completed, the next few days should continue to contain a litany of rumors and news. Check out the latest and greatest of those NFL free agency rumors and news below.

Colin Kaepernick Update
Kaepernick has been the subject of plenty of rumors this offseason and they might not stop for quite a bit. The 49ers have had discussions with the Jets, Browns and Broncos about a possible trade. The Browns and Broncos are the major players, but no one appears ready to budge, reports CSN Bay Area

"There’s a good chance he’s still on the team the way things look now," a source told CSNBayArea.com. The source said the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns or New York Jets -- teams currently without starting quarterbacks -- have not shown much urgency to acquire Kaepernick in a trade. The 49ers are holding tight in their trade demand, believed to be a second- or early third-round draft pick.

The Broncos are searching for a replacement for Brock Osweiler, with Mark Sanchez likely serving as the veteran backup when the team finds a younger QB. The Browns are still searching for a franchise QB. The 49ers will seemingly need to make a decision by April 1st, when Kaepernick's $11.9 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed. CSN Bay Area reports the team will not cut him and that are prepared for him to compete for the starting QB job.

Russell Okung Signs With Broncos
The Denver Broncos have added OT Russell Okung and it's a rather interesting contract.

While that type of deal has happened before, it's not a very common one. The Broncos need OL help and landed one of the most talented players, although Okung has battled injuries.

Denver To Trade Ryan Clady?
The Broncos had been trying to work out renegotiation with Clady, but the addition of Okung complicates that.

Clady has battled injuries in recent years and is set to have a $10 million base salary. The Broncos can save all of that by cutting Clady, and they might do that if they can't find a taker.

Could Patriots Cut Danny Amendola?
The Patriots could end up cutting WR Danny Amendola, especially with this season's additions of WR Chris Hogan and TE Martellus Bennett. However, the team isn't ready to do that quite yet.

Amendola has a $5 million base salary this season. He's set to count just over $6.8 million against the cap this season, while the Patriots would save about $4 million by releasing him. When healthy, Amendola has proven himself as a slot weapon. He played well in the absence of Julian Edelman last year.

Chris Johnson Sticks With Cardinals

Although the Miami Dolphins had expressed interest in Johnson, he's elected to stay with the Arizona Cardinals.

The emergence of David Johnson late last season means Johnson will likely be a part-time runner at most. The 30-year-old Johnson played well last season before getting hurt.
