5 NFL Teams That Could Sign RB Adrian Peterson This Offseason

The NFL rumors are starting to swirl around what team running back Adrian Peterson will play for in 2018. The Arizona Cardinals released Peterson on Tuesday after six games in Arizona. Peterson had an interesting 2017 starting the season with the New Orleans Saints and then was traded to Arizona in Week 5. With the Cardinals, Peterson carried the ball 129 times for 448 yards (3.5 ypc) and two touchdowns before he suffered a season-ending neck injury Dec.14th. He is just two years removed from his outstanding 2015 campaign where he led the NFL in rushing yards with 1,485 yards, but since then has declined. Here are the five teams who could sign Peterson for the 2018 season:

5.) Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are expected to franchise tag Le'Veon Bell and if/when that happens, Bell will sit out until the start of the season. Besides Bell, the Steelers are thin at running back. James Connor will be entering his second year in the NFL, but he is coming off an MCL injury. This is worrisome because Connor also suffered a torn MCL in his right knee in college. Adding Peterson would be simply for depth and if Peterson wants a chance to win a Super Bowl, the Steelers give him a decent chance.

4.) Indianapolis Colts
The Colts already have an aging rusher in Frank Gore and are looking to replace him with a young rusher instead of a veteran like Peterson. However, there's no denying that they need to start getting more consistent production from the position, and Peterson could be a short-term solution.

3.) Seattle Seahawks
Seattle had four rushing touchdowns last season and quarterback Russell Wilson had three of them. The Seahawks focus this offseason should be keeping Wilson upright and easing the pressure off his shoulders, and a solid running game would do just that. Seattle had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL allowing 43 sacks because defenses didn't respect their running game. Adding a veteran like Peterson who is a downhill runner would be a nice fit in Seattle.

2.) Detroit Lions
How long has it been since the Lions had anything resembling a good rushing attack? They haven't had a 1,000-yard rusher since Reggie Bush in 2013 and haven't had a back pick up 100 yards in a single game since Thanksgiving in 2013. The Lions may try to find a more cost-effective option in the draft, but they'll certainly look to address the need.

1.) Houston Texans
Peterson is from Palestine, Texas and has stated on ESPN's First Take that he wants to end his career at home in Houston as a Texan. The Texans drafted D'Onta Foreman in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and have running back Lamar Miller on the roster. The Texans may sign Peterson to shoulder the workload and share some knowledge with the other Texan running backs.
