Yankees Rumors: Could New York Trade For Jose Reyes?

The Colorado Rockies are unlikely to keep Jose Reyes once he returns from his MLB suspension for domestic violence. The Rockies have Trevor Story locked in at shortstop and simply don't need Reyes. There are teams interested in dealing for Reyes, although the exact teams are not known. But one team that could have interest is the New York Yankees

SB Nation suggests the Yankees could be an option. SS Didi Gregorius isn't playing very well and the Yankees added Aroldis Chapman before the season despite his domestic violence issue. The Yankees are struggling a bit this year and GM Brian Cashman could be getting a bit desperate.

Plus, the Yankees already tried to deal for Reyes before the start of the season. Ken Rosenthal reported earlier this year that the Yankees tried to swing a deal for Reyes, but the two sides never got close. Perhaps that will change now that the Rockies have zero need for Reyes.

There are plenty of issues in any Reyes deal for the Yankees. He might not be able to play shortstop at this point in his career, and the Yankees could likely prefer to keep Starlin Castor at second base. Gregorius was better last year and he's cheap enough that the Yankees might just elect to roll with him.
