The Latest Yankees News And Rumors On Blake Parker, Joe Girardi Benching Alex Rodriguez And More

The New York Yankees, at 56-56, aren't out of the AL Wild Card race, but they are 5.5 games back. With the trade deadline over, the Yankees are focused on the rest of the season and it's likely only a matter of time before the youth movement in New York gets started. While the Hot Stove has cooled off substantially, there are still moves being made. Check out all the latest Yankees rumors and news below.

Alex Rodriguez In Lineup Dispute
When it was first announced that Alex Rodriguez would be ending his playing career Friday, manager Joe Girardi said he'd find a way to play the Yankees veteran in every game against the Boston Red Sox this week. That is not the case, as Girardi sat A-Rod Tuesday, and is planning to do so again Wednesday. That has not sat well with Rodriguez, reports North Jersey.com

The conversation with Girardi, however, was like a slap in the face.

"It was surprising and shocking," Rodriguez said. "He has his opinion, I have mine. But like I’ve said from the time I came back from my suspension, it’s up to Joe and I’ll do whatever he wants."

Crazy thing is, a smackdown like this might just be the tipping point in A-Rod’s plan to resurrect in 2017. That would be a mistake – he’ll just get released somewhere else, only this time without fanfare. But Rodriguez has been telling teammates he’s getting pushed out the door, and now he has Girardi to blame.

While Rodriguez playing again seems a bit unlikely, it's clear he's not happy he's on the bench. After being told he'd play, it's easy to understand why. The Yankees are making the right move for their future by sitting Rodriguez, but Girardi's decision to try to win games isn't as sound. The Yankees aren't making the postseason this year, and they'd look better as a club by giving A-Rod the farewell tour he clearly wants.

Yankees Claim Blake Parker
The Yankees announced they've claimed reliever Blake Parker off waivers from the Mariners. Parker had been waived by Seattle after the club traded for Arquimedes Caminero in a deal with the Pirates. Parker has only pitched one inning in the majors this year. However, he was sharp in Triple-A, posting a 2.72 ERA in 39 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old righty has also played for the Cubs.

Other Roster Moves
With the claiming of Parker, the Yankees will need to move somebody off their 25-man roster. Nick Goody or Chasen Shreve are among the likely candidates to be sent down. The Yankees added Tommy Layne off waivers from the Red Sox yesterday, and they sent down Richard Bleier to make room for Layne.
