Patriots Rumors: Rob Gronkowski Expected To Return For 2018 Season

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is expected to return to the team for the 2018 season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Gronkowski was contemplating retirement this offseason due to the number of injuries he has suffered in his career and was entertaining the possibility of joining the WWE.

The 28-year-old admitted as much following New England's loss in the Super Bowl when he wouldn't commit to playing next season. And, according to a report from NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran, Gronk thought about walking away in training camp prior to the 2017 season.

"He seriously considered stepping away from the game in training camp," Curran said. "He had kind of had it. At that point his body wasn't responding. He wanted to train a certain way. The team didn't necessarily want him to train the way he wanted to train. They were at loggerheads. He was pissed."

Gronkowski caught 69 passes for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
