Here Are 3 Notable Players The New England Patriots Could Cut This Offseason

With the NFL season now over, the New England Patriots have turned their attention to the offseason. The team's first priority is re-signing its own players, and the Patriots have several key contributors they need to bring back next season, but also a few they could elect to get rid of. Here are three players the Patriots may cut this offseason:

WR Danny Amendola

The Patriots would likely prefer to find a way to restructure Amendola's deal and they would be expected to try to re-sign him for less if they do cut him, but there's virtually no way New England will pay Amendola the $7.79 million he's currently on the books for next season. He only had 23 receptions for 243 yards and four touchdowns last season. Simply put, his production doesn't match the salary.

RB Dion Lewis

Lewis is a tricky case. His incredible agility and shiftiness has made him a fan favorite in New England, thriving in his role as the pass-catching back with LeGarrette Blount as the power runner. However, after undergoing two knee surgeries and the emergence of James White, Lewis has become expendable.

LB Jonathan Freeny

Freeny was limited to just five games this season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury, but he didn't have much impact while he was healthy. He only recorded 10 tackles in those five games, and with Elandon Roberts, Kyle Van Noy and Shea McClellin all playing well in increased roles, Freeny seems like the odd-man out.
