Patriots News: Patriots still interested in retaining free agent RB Legarrette Blount?

In the past week, several Patriots news outlets have written off free agent running back Legarrette Blount as a casualty of the New England Patriots' deep stable of halfbacks.

However, we here at Chat Sports have just learned that such speculation may be just that -- speculation.

According to Jason La Canfora, NFL insider for CBSSports.com, the New England Patriots may still be in the running for the services of the former Oregon Ducks standout --

With a wrist injury sidelining running back Shane Vereen for the majority of the 2013 NFL season, Legarrette Blount had ample time to shine both during the regular season and in the playoffs.

And shine he did.

The 27-year-old New England Patriots running back rushed for 772 yards on just 153 carries, tying a career-high with 5.0 yards per carry and creating a new career benchmark with seven rushing touchdowns.

Yet, it was the New England Patriots' 43-22 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in their AFC Divisional Playoff matchup which really bolstered Blount's value this offseason. The 245-pound power back broke tackles left and right to finish with 166 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns -- a Patriots playoff record.
