The Minnesota Vikings and the Saint Louis Rams met in a week one matchup of two teams trying to set a positive tone.
Both teams started quarterbacks that weren't expected at the beginning of the preseason - St. Louis is without Sam Bradford after he suffered a second ACL tear in two years, and while the Vikings drafted Teddy Bridgewater as their quarterback of the future, Minnesota elected to go with Matt Cassel under center to give Bridgewater more time to acclimate to the NFL.
The first half played out as a largely defensive struggle, with two long Minnesota field goals the only points scored until very late in the second quarter.
After spending most of the quarter jockeying for field position, the Rams finally gave up an interception after a deep bomb intended for WR Jared Cook was intercepted by Vikings CB Josh Robinson.
Working with a short field, Cassel found WR Greg Jennings for the only touchdown of the first half. The Rams just couldn't get things going on offense in a less-than-thrilling half of football, and Minnesota led 13-0 going into the break.
