2015 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Select CB Trae Waynes

With the 11th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Trae Waynes out of Michigan State.

Position: Cornerback

Measurables: 6’0”, 186 lbs, 31” arm length, 8 ¼” hands

Analysis:

The fastest cornerback at the NFL Combine with a blazing 4.31-second 40-yard dash time, Waynes combines his elite quickness with deceptive strength (18 bench press reps at the Combine) and great durability. He played in 36 games at MSU with 27 starts, and garnered a first-team All-Big Ten selection and semifinalist finish for the Jim Thorpe Award during his redshirt junior season in 2014.

A true competitor who loves being left out on an island in man-to-man coverage, Waynes gave up just two touchdowns over his last two seasons in East Lansing. His recovery speed is otherworldly, and he combines that with a natural instinct for pinning home-run threats to the sideline and limiting their separation speed. A cover corner with a penchant for smothering wide receivers in the open field, Waynes’ aggression and intelligence is the true mark of a #1 NFL cornerback.
