Chargers News: RB Danny Woodhead Out For The Year

In this Chargers news bulletin, San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead is out for the season after suffering a high ankle sprain and fractured fibula in Sunday's contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Per Eric Williams of ESPN.com, Woodhead was placed on injured reserve by the team on Monday:

Seeing that the Chargers used their injured reserve with a designation to return slot on linebacker Melvin Ingram last week, San Diego had no choice but to shelve Woodhead for the remainder of 2014.

With Woodhead out and Ryan Mathews unlikely to return for a few weeks yet, the onus will be put on running back Donald Brown to shoulder the ground game for the time being.

Woodhead's placement on the injured reserve means that there are two open spots on the team's 53-man roster. They had carried just 52 players into Sunday's win in Buffalo.
