Dallas Cowboys preseason winners and losers from the Cowboys’ Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. There were several positive showing from the Cowboys, but not every player came out with a stock up after their game against the Bengals. The Cowboys’ first-team defense looked great against the Bengals, but specific shoutouts are due for CB Chidobe Awuzie, DE Taco Charlton and DE Randy Gregory. Charlton was a wrecking ball against the Bengals, looking like a first round pick. Awuzie had one hell of an INT and looks the part of a #1 CB. Gregory was a winner just for making it back and getting on the field and although the stat sheet didn’t show it, he was effective and generated pressure.
On offense, Darius Jackson took advantage of a Bo Scarbrough injury and put up quality numbers. He has a real chance to make the roster. Dak Prescott was steady and found WR Terrance Williams for a needed TD catch.
As for the losers, you can pretty much pick the entire backup OL and DBs. Chaz Green was the biggest loser, once again looking terrible. Cameron Fleming wasn’t much better, which might be an even bigger concern. Mike White continues to look meh, although the offensive line is not helping him. But right now, White hasn’t done much to justify a roster spot.
And finally, Rico Gathers should be a winner based on how he played. That “Mossing” catch was great, but he’s a loser based on Jerry Jones’ comments. Plus, despite being perhaps the best pass-catching option for the Cowboys, especially in the red zone, the Cowboys coaching staff still has him 4th on the depth chart. Gathers has not earned trust from the coaches in the blocking and special teams game. For a backup TE, that’s a huge issue.
