With the 25th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Shaq Thompson out of Washington.
Position: Linebacker/Safety
Measurables: 6’0”, 228 lbs, 33” arm length, 9.5” hands
Analysis:
Thompson has elite athleticism and instincts on the football field that allows him to play several positions on defense. He's a fluid, balanced athlete who changes directions easily and accelerates smoothly, and is a reliable tackler.
Physically, he appears best suited to the weakside linebacker role in a predominately 4-3 scheme. Thompson might be able to handle a hybrid role in which he's asked to play linebacker and safety, and defensive coordinator Sean McDermott loves that versatility.
