ASU basketball's biggest surprise this season has been home attendance

The most impressive part of Arizona State’s basketball season isn’t the November climb into the top five or the upset at Kansas or the holiday tournament championship in Sin City.

Instead, it’s located in a local warehouse, stuck in storage.

For years, ASU basketball played in a reduced-capacity facility because of a wall the university erected in the upper rows of Wells Fargo Arena. The publicly stated goal was to create more of an intimate atmosphere, but the message was obvious:

ASU basketball couldn’t attract big crowds.

This season, that's not the case. After a hot start, ASU paid $10,000 to remove the wall, putting it in storage for the rest of the season.
